This full-time Learning Support Assistant role offers a rewarding opportunity to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, and additional learning needs within a structured and supportive educational environment.

Whether you have experience as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Support Worker, Care Worker, or have previously worked within a PRU, Alternative Provision, or SEN school, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), you will work closely with teachers and support staff to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, improve emotional regulation, and achieve positive educational outcomes.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with:

• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Challenging behaviour
• Autism (ASC)
• ADHD
• Trauma and attachment needs
• Additional learning needs

Key Responsibilities

• Support teachers in delivering engaging lessons and managing classroom activities.
• Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual student needs.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and encourage engagement in learning.
• Implement positive behaviour management strategies and help maintain a safe, structured learning environment.
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual needs.
• Promote students’ confidence, independence, emotional well-being, and personal development.
• Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff where appropriate.

Requirements

• A valid DBS check on the Update Service is preferred.
• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or within a PRU, Alternative Provision, SEN school, care, youth work, or residential setting is highly desirable.
• A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes.
